It has been a busy month filled with highs and lows for many of us. My total hysterectomy went well 5 weeks ago with some minor setbacks and annoyances. Nothing major but none of it expected in my positive thinking, “Everything works out well for me,” usual mindset.
As my husband reminded me at the ER last Friday night when I was frustrated with a post-op complication, it could have been so much worse. He is right, I have so much to be grateful for. Most of all for the love, prayers, support, messages, cards and healing sent on my sister and my behalf. Thank you all. We are doing wonderfully. It helped so much. She has her last chemo treatment on Tuesday. YAY!
I learned so much about myself as challenging times always seem to teach us. I learned on a deeper level as I have shared numerous times that I am not great at being the one in need. Having to ask for everything when you can’t reach, lift or go up and downstairs as much as you want is humbling and frustrating.
What I also learned on a deeper level is how important energy healing is to me. I took my first Reiki class in 2002. As a nurse and person that loves to offer comfort, especially through touch and hugs I resonated to it right away. I took a course in it that year and became a Reiki Master Teacher in 2003. It has always been important to me & my deep passion is to pass it on and teach it to others. In the past 12 years there are very few days that I haven’t also used it as a way to bring myself comfort, peace, healing, or to share it with someone in need.
I have always appreciated its power to help but never more than in the past few months for my sister and I. In the hospital when I was struggling and my sister was at home having chemo side effects we both would send each other Reiki and feel the positive effects. I would send out an SOS message to my Reiki friends and within seconds 25 people were sending us healing energy.
The picture above is of Ivan enjoying Reiki. He is our Angelights friend, Laurie’s, beautiful cat. He is laying on her Reiki 2nd degree folder that she placed on her bed when she got home from the Reiki class she took a few weeks ago.
Here is another one I adore of him still on the folder soaking up the love. That is how I feel when I get Reiki, like I can’t get enough, am so relaxed & don’t want it to end. Like Ivan, I don’t need to analyze how it works in my head as it is something to be felt and experienced in our bodies and no mental understanding is necessary. But often our minds NEED to understand to believe in its power. So what is energy healing? What is the difference between all the different kinds, which one is better, more powerful or easiest to learn?
First, it helps to remember that we are energy beings or Spirits more than we are physical beings. That is our essence and what is real about us. The body is the house in this lifetime of this energy body which is our Spirit. It is the life force or energy that is responsible for our bodies functioning without our help, like our heart beating right this moment, which will slow down when we sleep and beat faster when we run. Energy healing works on that deep level which is the source or root of dis-ease or wonderful flowing health.
There are many paths that can bring us to healing. There is the medical path which involves medicine, surgery and physical treatment modalities. There is the alternative approach with therapies like reflexology, herbs, chiropractic care and massage. There is the mind-over- matter path involving mindfulness, positive thinking, prayer and includes the proven, positive effects of placebos. There is also the energy healing path that involves acupuncture, reiki, tong ren, integrated energy therapy, therapeutic touch & many others.
My deep knowing is that all the different kinds of healing modalities are effective, gifts from our Creator & necessary. I advocate using them all and not judging one better than another. Our very different bodies, belief systems and particular Spiritual paths all play into our healing, so no one path is the right one for everyone. We all must listen to our Spirit and body’s innate wisdom and do what we are guided is right in each moment and be open to shift gears when something isn’t working.
The energy healing that I was drawn to in 2002 is Reiki. It is an energy healing that is channeled from our Creator or the Universe into our hearts and out our hands. What I love most about it is that I can’t do it “wrong” as it is smarter than me. It goes wherever it’s needed to send wonderful, powerful blasts of love, light and comfort. Also, I need to be full of it in order to give it to someone else. As a giver, that is so important as I sometimes empty myself without realizing it.
I love that it is not a complicated healing modality. I don’t need to remember anything or have any props or tools with me in order to do it. All I need is my hands, an open heart and the intention to bring healing and comfort and it works. It has brought me, my family, friends, co-workers and clients so much comfort and peace over the years. There are so many different modalities and I believe that they all bring you to the same healing place and none are more powerful than any other.
As I received the pictures of Ivan in loving bliss receiving the healing love from the Reiki folder I was reminded again of what a precious gift energy healing has been to me not just for the past few months but over the past 12 years. What could be more wonderful than to sit with someone you love that is in pain and suffering and be able to place your hands gently over them, watch their body relax and fall asleep? Or to send it to them when you can’t be with them physically and for them to say they feel so much better. It is absolutely priceless and the most precious & valued of my treasure chest of nursing, helping, loving others and myself tools.
I know many of you are energy healing practitioners already. Sometimes we get so busy in life we forget we have this gift always at our fingertips to help bring ourselves & others healing and peace. I hope this is a gentle reminder. It is not meant to be another “should.” We don’t need more responsibilities, just more options to BE in states of grace and love.
If you are interested in learning about Reiki, my next class is at the end of March. For now, just put your hands gently over your heart or anywhere that hurts and ask God and the Angels to fill you with healing, light and love.
Thank you Ivan for reminding me of how much I love Reiki healing too! I wish you all a month of gratitude, peace, healing, Ivan-like bliss & abundance & in all its forms. Be beautiful, amazing YOU. Nobody does it better.
love, love, love you,
Jackie xo
